Anjuna is located about 18kms from Panaji and 8 kms from Mapusa. Anjuna beach is marked by an unusual rocky formation overlying a cove of white sand and black rock that juts out into the Sea. Anjuna is known as the hippie capital of Goa. The beach at Anjuna is beautiful with a rocky stretch near the location of Anjuna's famous wednesday flea market seperates the north Anjuna beach from the southern side. The atmosphere in Anjuna is lively and young along with some fantastic places to eat and drink. Restaurants in Anjuna mostly sells local specialities, western food and of course, plenty of cold beer.
St. Michael's Church - Anjuna
St. Michael's Church, Anjuna, founded in 1595, is dedicated to St. Miguel, and celebrates the feasts of St Miguel (September 29) and Nossa Senhora Advogada (second week of January).
Anjuna to Baga
You can walk along the cliffs over the hills from the southern end of Anjuna to Baga. Though the walk is quite tiring it affords some wonderful view of the sea. the walk from Anjuna gets you to the northern end of Baga beach and you would have to wade through the shallow Baga river to get to the Baga beach. The path from Anjuna to Baga is a quite narrow at some places and you have to be sure footed to walk over some of the rocky bits.
Anjuna Flea Market
Wednesday flea market is a major attraction of Anjuna. Even if you dont plan to shop wednesday flea market is an unmissable event while in Anjuna. Amongst other hawkers here you’ll find Goa’s old hippies haggling the day away over clothing and souvenirs!
