Benaulim beach located very close to Madgaon is a long stretch of beach which extends onto Colva via Sernabatim Beach to its north. Legend has it that the land of Goa was formed when the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu - Parashuram shot an arrow into the sea and it receded to reveal the land of Goa. The place where the arrow fell was called "Banali" which was later modified to Benaulim.
Benaulim located in south Goa is a small town with the tranquil Benaulim beach. Benaulim beach is a long stretch of largely empty sand perfect to just relax on the sands. A lifeguard is present on the Benaulim beach along with plenty of sunbed-equipped beach shacks to the north of the main Benaulim beach entrance. Maria Hall is the main junction in Benaulim to catch a bus going either to Colva or Mobor.
Blessed Joseph Vaz
Blessed Joseph Vaz was a Catholic Oratorian priestborn in Benaulim. He is known as the 'Apostle of Ceylon' and died in Kandy, Srilanka on 16 January 1711
Colva one of the most popular beaches near Madgaon was well known for its 'Fama' or the feast of Menino Jesus at the Our Lady of Mercy Church even before it became a tourist destination. Colva beach located about 5 kms north of Benaulim is a broad beach with a stream coursing through it. Colva is largely a fishing hamlet with fishermen operateing all along the coast from here down to Benaulim through Sernabatim.
Mobor beach is located about 12 kms south of Benaulim, at the southern end of Slacete coastline. Mobor is a narrow trip of land between the Arabian sea and the Assolna River Estuary. Mobor enjoys a pristine and serene10 kilometer long sandy beach.
