Mahadev Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and is reminiscent of the temples at Aihole in neighbouring Karnataka. Located in Tambdi Surla Mahadev temple is at the foot of the Anmod Ghat, which connects Goa to the state of Karnataka. Though dedicated to Shiva Mahadev Temple also has Vaishnavite deities which impart Mahadev temple a unique place in Goa Kadamba temple architechture.
Mahadev Temple was built by Hemadri, the minister of the Yadava King Ramachandra. The temple is built in the Hemadpanthi style from basalt rock. Mahadev Temple in Tambdi Surla is considered to be the only specimen of Kadamba-Yadava architecture in basalt stone preserved and available in Goa. Mahadev Temple is located 13 kilometres from Bolcornem village 65 kilometres from Panaji.

The Mahadev temple is very well maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Restoration and maintenance work of the temple is carried out by them. There is no entry fee.
Oldest Temple in Goa
The Mahadev temple of Tambdi Surla is the oldest temple in Goa. Hidden away in dense jungle Mahadev temple set next to a stream survived the Portuguese persecution.
Mahadev temple consists of garbhagriha, antarala and a pillared Nandi mandapa built of basalt. The four pillars, embellished with intricate carvings of elephants and chains support a stone ceiling decorated with finely carved Ashtoken lotus flowers. The interior and the sides of the building is adorned with intricate carvings. Figures of Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma is carved on panels at the sides of the temple.
Bhagwan Mahavir Sanctuary
Situated near the town of Molem, 57 kilometres from Panaji Bhagwan Mahavir Sanctuary and Mollem National Park is one of the largest wildlife sanctuaries in Goa. the park covers an area of 240 square kilometres of western ghats.
